Manage your personal profile and sign-in

Distinguish personal account details, organisation affiliation and application identity information.

Know which profile you are editing

Your personal account profile contains information about your account and sign-in. Organisation affiliation identifies your relationship with a workspace. Applicant details on a check are part of that specific application.

Changing an account display name does not automatically correct submitted application details. Use the check’s dedicated personal-details stage or correction workflow for that task.

Update available details

  1. Open your profile in the intended account perspective.
  2. Read the current values and field descriptions.
  3. Use the available edit controls.
  4. Complete any validation or verification required by the form.
  5. Save and confirm the updated value after reopening the section.

A field can be unavailable because of account state or a verification requirement. Do not create a duplicate account to bypass it.

Manage sign-in connections

Use the dedicated provider connection or security controls. External authentication can redirect you to the provider and return to ClearDBS. Confirm the intended provider account before granting access.

Do not give the assistant your password, recovery code, token or one-time verification code. The assistant can explain the screen but cannot complete secure authentication for you.

Review organisation affiliation

Being affiliated with an organisation does not give every member the same access. Check Members or ask an authorised administrator when a workspace role needs review. Your individual perspective remains separate from organisation operations.

If the real workspace is unavailable, read the availability message. Completing a profile or accepting an invitation does not override independent workspace-release controls.

Detailed walkthrough

1. Check the account identity

Review the name and email on this personal account screen before making changes. A display name helps colleagues recognise you; it is separate from the verified identity details on an individual DBS application. Demo edits do not update a real sign-in account.

2. Review sign-in separately

Use the personal account security controls to review the sign-in methods available to you. A connected provider and ClearDBS two-factor authentication are separate settings. Follow the dedicated setup flow on a real account; this tutorial does not enrol an authenticator.

3. Confirm a profile change

When editing your real profile, review the entered value and use the form save control. Check for a validation message or confirmation before navigating away. Updating a profile does not automatically correct information already submitted in an application.

Practise this section

Open Help & tutorials, select this guide and choose Start practice walkthrough. Read each highlighted component before continuing. Use Back to revisit an explanation and Retry if a sample has not loaded. The walkthrough uses fictional records; do not enter real applicant information.

Use Exit tutorial to leave and keep your place, then Resume walkthrough in this guide to continue. When returning from practice to a real workspace, review the actual record and your permissions before making a change. Tutorial completion does not perform the underlying task.

Before using this guide

Open My account from the header; individuals can also open Personal details. Confirm whose account is displayed before using a profile form.

Worked example

If your display name is shortened, review Name in the personal profile. If a submitted application has the wrong legal name, open that application and request the appropriate correction instead.

Read the security methods

Individuals use Sign-in & security within Personal details; organisation members open their personal account from the header. Read the protection summary and the status of each method before choosing an action.

  • Password: the change form is separate from the profile-name form. Review its validation and confirmation before assuming a password changed. Never enter a password into a tutorial or chat.
  • Passkeys: use the dedicated registration flow on a real account and check the resulting method list. Merely opening the panel registers nothing.
  • Two-factor: enrol through the dedicated authenticator flow when available. Provider sign-in and the ClearDBS second-factor challenge are separate protections.
  • Connected accounts: confirm the provider identity before connecting or disconnecting it. Do not remove a working sign-in method without understanding the remaining access methods.

Return to Your details to edit a display name. Privacy & data contains optional permissions and account data controls; these are separate from sign-in configuration.

Guided component walkthrough

Each component has one short guided step. Read the explanation, then choose Next; Back revisits the previous component. The cursor only demonstrates useful navigation or an explicit action. Replay action repeats that demonstration, and Skip animation keeps the explanation. Use this written guide for feature details.

Open the account menu

  • Open the account menu: Your name in the header opens the menu that holds your own settings. The pointer opens it for you.

Find My account

  • Find My account: My account is the route to your personal profile rather than the workspace settings. The pointer selects it for you.

Your personal account

  • Your personal account: Name, contact details and sign-in belong to you alone. Demo records never touch a real account.

Check the account identity

  • Check the account identity: Review the name and email on this personal account screen before making changes. A display name helps colleagues recognise you; it is separate from the verified identity details on an individual DBS application. Demo edits do not update a real sign-in account.
  • Profile information scope: Personal details here identify your account. Review the displayed name and contact information separately from legal identity information supplied on a specific DBS application.

Review sign-in separately

  • Review sign-in separately: Use the personal account security controls to review the sign-in methods available to you. A connected provider and ClearDBS two-factor authentication are separate settings. Follow the dedicated setup flow on a real account; this tutorial does not enrol an authenticator.
  • Security setup is separate: Read the sign-in panel before starting any security setup. Provider sign-in and a ClearDBS authenticator can serve different roles; this guide does not change either method.

Confirm a profile change

  • Confirm a profile change: When editing your real profile, review the entered value and use the form save control. Check for a validation message or confirmation before navigating away. Updating a profile does not automatically correct information already submitted in an application.
